The Exotic Mahogany Acoustic-Electric was introduced in 2012 and has quickly become our best-selling U•BASS®. Capturing the same upright bass sound as the Solid Mahogany U•BASS®, look no further for enormous low end.

This gorgeous Kala U-Bass gives you full-sized bass tone you can comfortably travel with. In fact, this bass is small enough to fit into the overhead compartment of an airplane. The U-Bass is packed with thick, rich acoustic bass tone that's bolstered by an exotic mahogany body. Forget about its actual size — the U-Bass's tone comes startlingly close to that of traditional double bass (something that anyone used to lugging around an upright will love). And since this little uke-style instrument uses traditional bass tuning, there's virtually no learning curve if you're used to a standard bass guitar. From session work to all-night gigs, you'll be glad you picked up this Exotic Mahogany U-Bass from Kala.

The secret behind the big sound of the Kala U-Bass is almost as cool as its small, ultra-portable format. It comes from the combination of the right tonewoods and Kala's unique polyurethane strings. These lightweight, large-diameter strings provide plenty of low frequency oomph, which resonates with a deep, rich, and wooden quality that's both reminiscent of the coveted upright sound and colored with a uniquely musical quality all of its own.

As an acoustic instrument, another major factor in the Exotic Mahogany U-Bass's tone is the selection of tonewoods Kala chose. This U-Bass gives you the characteristically full-bodied sound of mahogany construction. Plus, it looks simply amazing! Add to that a walnut fingerboard and a walnut bridge, and you get a kind of dark warmth that blossoms with every note.

Introduced on the 2013 edition, Kala's custom electronics give this U-Bass a vibrant and realistic sound when you play plugged in. An active equalizer lets you tweak your tone, effortlessly meeting the needs of even the most demanding venues. What's more, Kala even equipped this U-Bass with an onboard tuner — an essential part of any musician's live kit.
